16Days of activism for no violence against women and children !!

As we begin the 16 Days of Activism For No Violence Against Women And Children  Bush Radio 89.5 FM   ‪#‎Sakhisizwe  and  ‪#‎BackChat  broadcast live in Philippi at Khanyisa Community Centre. The house is managed by Cesvi Foundation in collaboration with SIZAKUYENZA . This centre provides a shelter for women and children victims of domestic violence. In partnership with Ons Plek , Mosaic , Inyanda Youth Network Department of social Development and Blue Sky Recycling . They are doing amazing works in our communities and their services are for free and available for people in need of them. We had so much fun! 

Wednesday with Samantha Adams

Today the Bush Radio staff got the opportunity to be part of a talk hosted by Samantha Adams who offers First Aid workshops around Cape Town. In October Helping Hands,not yet registered NGO, officially started its first workshop, Helping Hands was started to empower individuals and teach basic first aid skills to EVERYONE with workshops, talks and full training. Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) is a first aid technique that can be used if someone is not breathing properly or if their heart has stopped. Chest compressions and rescue breaths keep blood and oxygen circulating in the body.

Tuesday - Human Rights - The Cape Town Association for the physically disabled!

The Cape Town Association for the Physically Disabled launched the Buckets of Hope project in 2009 to address poverty and unemployment that many Physically Disabled people are faced with. With community support and assistance from dedicated volunteers, families receive buckets filled with essential food items. Their goal this year is to distribute 200 Buckets of Hope during the festive season and they require the community’s help to reach it. Fatima joined me in studio to talk more about the non-profit organisation and about some of the challenges that are faced by people with disabilities . She highlights that people should not treat people with disabilities different and should not be exclude them from the community. I thank Fatima for being so dedicated and passionate about her work, which includes assisting people with disability in every possible. 

Monday - Health - The Global Kidney Foundation!

Peter Ova 47 year old from Retreat was diagnosed with renal (kidney) Failure in February in 2013; he went through a physical and emotional journey filled with depression, pain and fear. His son and wife was both a match but, he did not wanted to accept the kidney and got depressed, than received a call from the hospital to notify him that there is a kidney available from a 17 year boy that was shot and killed. The operation took place 4th of May 2014. The operation was duration of 5 and half hours. He now has 3 kidneys, hence being they do not remove your failed kidney. The Global Kidney Foundation is a non-profit organisation that offers educational and emotional support for renal failure patients, started by Peter Ova.

Wednesday - Gender - Mbali Matandela

Mbali Matandela  who was part of the 9 women out of the 23 students that were arrested during the protest weeks ago for  ‪#‎FeeMustFall  campaign. They then appeared at the Wynberg Magistrate Court on the 28th October 2015 and fortunately all charges were dropped. Mbali Matandela is a Gender and Transformation Honours student and a black feminist activist. She pursues her gender activism on various platforms, such as The African Gender Institute’s Young Women’s Leadership Program and the Rhodes Must Fall Movement. Her writing centres on the experience of black women in South Africa, therefore her writing both within and outside of the academia seeks to empower women through different forms of expression – written, oral and visual. Thus far, she has written for the Mail and Guardian and she is a contributing writer and poet for the Rhodes Must Fall Writing Sub-committee.

The Erika Woodman who spoke so passionate about babies development also joined me in studio. Introducing to us GoBaby App  \GoBabayClub is an interactive mobile app with 240 fun development activities for parents and caregivers with babies age 3 -12 months./ It has been designed as a fun tool to stimulate your baby step by step through early motor , emotional and cognitive development while educating parents and caregivers to be more aware of what to expect and when. 

Monday - Health - New diabetes-focused recipe book !!!

Today in studio was joined by Mariska to speak to me more about the 3 rd edition of the diabetes –focussed recipe book by the well known foodie , Heleen Meyer that will launch in time for National Diabetes Awareness month now in November . The book aims to inspire , motivate and educate the estimated 3,5 million South African living with diabetes but its also to create awareness on heathy eating especially with Family.The recipe book is amazing and very helpful in helping you coon meals that are healthy for the family.  Now it will be available online from the 14 th November 2015.
