Health - “Know your Blood Pressure”
On Sakhisizwe today, we spoke to Jessica Bacon - Registered dietician at the Heart and Stroke Foundation
about high blood pressure. The Heart and Stroke Foundation South Af rica has joined its voice with the World Health
Organisation to call on South Af ricans to know their blood pressure. It is
reported that with 6.3 million people living with high blood pressure, South Af rica has one of the highest rates of hypertension worldwide. Last Saturday May 17th
was the World Hypertension Day. It is estimated that about 1
billion people or approximately 25% of the world's adult
population currently have hypertension and associated to the 7.1 million deaths
annually and an even greater number of cardiovascular disease
events. World
Hypertension Day aims
to promote public awareness of hypertension and to encourage citizens of all countries to prevent and control this
silent killer, the modern epidemic. This year’s theme was “Know your Blood Pressure”. For f urther inf ormation you can contact
