April is Nutrition and Lifestyle related Cancer Awareness Month

We also heard from Dorothy Du Plooy - Executive Manager for the CANSA Southern Business Unit. We were talking about Nutrition and Lifestyle related Cancer Awareness Month. It is said that Cancer is a leading cause of death around the world. The World Health Organisation estimates that 84 million people will die of cancer between 2005 and 2015 without intervention. CANSA believes it’s important to make people aware of the risk factors and ways to reduce the cancer risk since more than 30% of cancers can be prevented. They also believe that due to fear and ignorance cancer becomes a bigger problem than it needs to be as many South Africans have preconceived ideas of what cancer is and whom it affects. One of the biggest myths is that cancer is a death sentence which in actual fact is not. For further information you can contact CANSA on (021) 689 5347 or visit www.cansa.org.za
