Siv plays Thando Molepo - a young man in his late twenties, facing and attempting to deal with a number of internal, domestic, relational and macro conflicts, all of them related in some way, or having some bearing on each other. On Sakhisizwe today, we spoke to Mncedisi Mbolekwa - Provincial secretary of POPCRU in the Western Cape about the outcome of the march they embarked on yesterday. POPCRU Members employed by the South African Police Service under the Public Service Act were marching over the safety and security sectoral bargaining council agreement signed in 2011, which had apparently not yet been implemented. POPCRU is demanding that SAPS implements the agreement signed which states that Public Service Act employees would be translated into the SAPS Act to ensure that they are eligible for the vast benefits currently enjoyed by their colleagues in uniform. Mncedisi said that POPCRU will convene a national march 14 days from the day of the first round of marches in the event that SAPS doesn’t deliver on their demands. In today's show, we heard from Manny de Freitas – From the Democratic Alliance speaking to us about the Alternation of Sex Description and Sex Status Act. The Alteration of Sex Description and Sex Status Act No. 49 of 2003 is a South African Act of Parliament which allows a person to change, under certain conditions, their sex recorded in the population registry. We were joined by Bronwyn Pearce - Deputy Director of Johns Hopkins Health and Education in South Africa  to tell us more about the ZAZI campaign. The campaign encourages women and girls to draw on their inner strength, power, and self-confidence to know themselves and what they stand for in order to guide their decisions about their future. Sanja Bornman - An attorney for the Women’s Legal Centre spoke to us about the landmark Constitutional Court case against the criminalisation of consenting sexual activity between adolescents. In light of Child Protection Week that’s commemorated this week, the Constitutional Court will hear the declaration of invalidity by the Teddy Bear Clinic and Resources Aimed at the Prevention of Child Abuse and Neglect (RAPCAN), represented by the Centre for Child Law regarding their challenge against the offending provisions of the Sexual Offences Act. This emerged after consensual sexual activities, including kissing, between children between the ages of 12 and 16 became a criminal offence when the Sexual Offences Act came into force in 2007.

On Sakhisizwe today, we heard from Siviwe Mbinda – Founder of the Happyfeet Youth Project. Siviwe started the project in an effort to provide a safe after school environment for the children of KwaLanga. The program empowers the children through gumboots and traditional dance to be confident and disciplined in achieving their goals both on and off the stage. Siviwe explained more. The funding Happy Feet receives goes towards uniforms, traditional instruments, a feeding scheme, school fee and material support, and Happy Feet outings and functions. Janine Everson - Academic director at the Centre for Coaching at UCT’s Graduate School of Business joined us on the line to talk about how Coaching Circles can help organisations develop and retain top talent. According to research from the Centre it appears that Coaching Circles a relatively new training technique can impart valuable business and management skills more cost effectively than conventional training programmes. It involves small groups of people, who share a project or an activity, and meet regularly to work on problems in a supportive environment. But unlike action learning, which has problem solving as its prime goal, Coaching Circles have a triple focus on solving problems, empowering individual members of the team, and teaching and embedding coaching skills in the organisation during the process. Samantha Durkin – Former Joburg Gay Pride Festival Company Board Member joined us on the line.   The board of Joburg Gay Pride Festival Company voted to end the Section 21 Company that has produced Joburg Pride over the past seven years. The Company was voluntarily wound up by unanimous resolution at a board meeting in March this year. Samantha explained more on what influenced the board’s decision. She is currently organising a new event for the LGBTI community, the Joburg Mardi Gras. The Joburg Mardi Gras will be a festival of cultural and social entertainment events, offering an unconditional platform for community expression. Jonathan Jonkers - Chairman of the Cape Town Alcohol and Drug Action Committee for Mitchell’s Plain was Instudio to tell us more about how they promote a drug free lifestyle for the youth. Mitchell’s Plain is one of eight sub committees of the Cape Town Alcohol and Drug Action Committee that was established by the City in accordance with the National Drug Master Plan. The committee includes people from all sectors involved in substance abuse and related problems such as justice, police, probation and correctional services, school, health, social development and community structure officials. The national plan expects sub-committees to develop and maintain integrated drug policies in collaboration with all stakeholders in order to prevent drug related crime and ensure quality of life for residents at community level. We were talking about the talk on sleep disorders and insomnia that they hosting tonight.   The Strandfontein Depression and Related Disorders Support Group affiliated to the South African Depression and Anxiety Group (SADAG) is hosting Dr Adelbert Scholtz a counselling psychologist who will present a talk on sleep disorders and insomnia. He will explain why people need sleep, the importance of regular sleeping patterns for physical and mental health, and ways to combat insomnia. We also heard from Jay Barnes – Convener of the Western Cape Bipolar Support Association. We were focusing on Bipolar disorder and bipolar Awareness day which is on the 26 th of May. Bipolar disorder, also known as manic depression, is a mood disorder characterised by extreme shifts in mood, energy and functioning. This is much less common than Major Depressive Disorder and Dysthymia, and only 2% of the population is affected over a lifetime. Males and females are affected equally. According to the South African Depression and Anxiety Group, over 470 000 South Africans are living with bipolar disorder . Bipolar disorder is also the fifth leading cause of disability worldwide. PMHP is an independent initiative based at the University of Cape Town. It provides a counselling service in 4 public obstetric facilities in Cape Town as one out of three women living in poverty in South Africa will suffer from a mental health problem related to her pregnancy.
