Set in the Okavango Delta in northern Botswana , the opera deals with the efforts of an ambitious female baboon, Lady Macbeth, to encourage her husband, Macbeth, to murder the dominant baboon, Duncan . Computer School Hout Bay is offering free computer classes

Tony Hall - CEO of the Computer School Hout Bay joined us on the line to tell us more about the free computer classes being offered. The Computer School in Hout Bay is offering free classes at the Spinney on Tuesdays from 3pm as Michael Eastman teaches Introduction to Computers for the absolute beginner. Participants will learn basic computer terminology such as how to navigate in the windows environment, file management and the basics of Microsoft Word, email and the internet at a very introductory level. Women and Beyond is looking for volunteers

Ethel Taylor - Founder of Women and Beyond was on the line to talk about the training she is offering for new volunteers. Women and Beyond is a registered gender based NPO which provides services to women and children who have succumbed to abuse and rape. Ethel will be hosting a half a day training session for prospect volunteers wishing to be a part of their Call Centre Team, Community Outreach Carers Team and Counsellors Team. Although the training is free, as a non profit organization a R40 payment is required to cover the training manual and catering after training but they will source a donor or sponsor for those who are unemployed and cannot afford the R40 fee. Kidzpositive & Keiskamma Trust to embark on the Dust for Development Treble Tour

Kidzpositive was founded 14 years ago and aims to lighten the impossible burden facing HIV-positive mothers by raising support for the daily needs of HIV positive children and their families. Kidzpositive in partnership with the Keiskamma Trust will be embarking on the Dust for Development Treble Tour that involves them riding the dirt roads connecting the Eastern and Western Cape Provinces to raise awareness of and support for the developmental needs of children from birth to adolescence. StreetSmart SA arming vulnerable children programmes with funding

Melanie Burke - Vice-Chairperson of StreetSmart SA was Instudio to tell us more about their initiative that assists street children. StreetSmart SA is dedicated towards helping street children rebuild their lives by collecting R5 donations through participating restaurants in Cape Town and surrounding towns, which has raised more than R5, 6 million since its inception in 2005. The funds are supporting the panel beating skills training programme at Learn to Live, social worker salaries at Ons Plek and Home from Home: Oceanview and Vrygrond as well as salaries for aftercare and family reconstruction at the Cape Town Multi Service Centre. This is achieved through a voluntary R5 donation that is added to one’s table’s bill, should you wish to give more, or not at all just say so. Health - MTC in partnership with Bush Radio focuses on TB Awareness

Alison Best On Sakhisizwe today, we were broadcasting live from the Brooklyn Chest Hospital as part of the MTC project in partnership with Bush Radio. We spoke to Alison Best - Advocacy, Communication and Social Mobilisation Co-ordinator for TB/HIV Care Association. We were talking about the services they offer and the recent march they embarked on to commemorate World TB day. TB/HIV Care Association aims to improve TB and HIV management by increasing access to TB and HIV diagnosis, care, treatment and community-based treatment adherence support. Last week Monday the association and partners embarked on a “Stop TB in my Lifetime ” TB awareness march in central Cape Town in commemoration of World TB day as participants wore TB masks with positive messages to raise awareness and decrease the stigma around it. Foundation for Human Rights to host a Sustainability Workshop

We heard from Mr Enver Moothoosamy - Grants Manager at the Foundation for Human Rights. He was speaking to us about the Sustainability Workshop they are hosting tomorrow in Cape Town in partnership with the Department of Justice and Constitutional Development on the Access to Justice and promotion of Constitutional Rights Programme funded by the European Union. The Sustainability Workshop seeks to bring together government, donor organizations and civil society to deliberate on the apparent changing global funding environment and the role of non-government and community based organizations. The results of a recent survey conducted by FHR to ascertain whether South African CBO and NGOs funding is indeed in serious crisis would also be tabled for discussion. Health - Last week was the World Glaucoma Week

In today's show, we heard from Dr Nagib du Toit – an Ophthalmologist from Groote Schuur Hospital . We were talking about Glaucoma. Last week was the World Glaucoma Week. This is a joint global initiative of the World Glaucoma Association and the World Glaucoma Patient Association to raise awareness of glaucoma, what it does to sight and how it might affect you. Glaucoma is a progressive disease that causes irreversible visual loss due to an elevation in pressure inside the eye caused by a build-up of excess fluid. There is no cure for glaucoma; however it is treatable if it is detected early but Dr du Toit explained more about the treatment. March 21st marks the International Down Syndrome Day

Dr Reneva Petersen - A Developmental Paediatrician at the Red Cross Children’s Hospital joined us on the line to tell us more about Down syndrome. On Thursday March 21 st is the International Down Syndrome Day. The day raises global awareness as every year the voice of people with Down syndrome, and those who live and work with them, grows louder. Down syndrome is a genetic condition that causes delays in physical and intellectual development. It is not related to race, nationality, religion or socioeconomic status. The most important fact to know about individuals with Down syndrome is that they are more like others than they are different. Dr Petersen explained more about this condition. We closed off with Professor Asgar Kalla - Head of the Rheumatology Department at UCT’s Department of Medicine. He was speaking to us about managing Rheumatoid Arthritis. On Friday, March 22 nd is the Rheumatoid Arthritis Awareness Day. Rheumatoid arthritis is a chronic condition characterized by inflammation of the peripheral joints of the hands, wrists, elbows, shoulders, hips, knees and feet, usually on both sides of the body, potentially resulting in damage. Damage is caused by persistent inflammation of the synovium, the membrane lining the joint, with subsequent damage of the cartilage, bone erosion and joint deformities. I t is reported that about one per cent of the population is affected by Rheumatoid Arthritis although in South Africa there are no accurate prevalence figures. Women are affected about two to three times more often than men. The incidence increases with age difference. Rheumatoid arthritis is seen around the world and all races are affected. In today's show, we were joined by David Gwynne-Evans - CEO of CASABIO.org. CASABIO is an NGO dedicated to the conservation of the earth's species. The organisation’s concept is simple: take photos of organisms you see and using their easy and efficient software, give them a locality. CASABIO seeks to recruit volunteers to spend time in the field documenting organisms, as well as time spent integrating information into the database, based in Cape Town. The Project objective is to develop a catalogue of local organisms of your choice, and to populate the database with these and other species encountered. Work4You fills the employment gap for people with intellectual disabilities
