Westridge High School Library Appeal

We closed off with Megan Hitchin - Senior book seller at the Book Lounge. Each year at the Open Book Festival the Book Lounge pledge to install a library in a school that is currently operating without one. This year they are putting a library into Westridge High School in Mitchell's Plain. The school is reported to have over 1,100 pupils and no library, so the Book Lounge have committed to giving them 5,000 books and for this they depend on the generosity of public donations. They would be most grateful if you would consider contributing to the appeal - any amount would be hugely appreciated. Just choose how much, and they will select books to that amount and send you an invoice for an EFT. The Book Lounge is giving 10% discount on all books bought for the library, to make the donated money go further. Winter having an effect on Bloodstocks

The Western Cape Blood Service (WCBS) is appealing to all donors to donate blood as blood stocks are critically low. “The winter is having a severe effect on our bloodstocks and we are amidst a severe blood stock shortage”, says Marike Carli, Public Relations Manager at WCBS. There is a critical shortage in the O and B blood groups, with only a 2-day supply left. The A-positive blood stocks are also under severe pressure as only a 3-day supply is left. WCBS always aim to have a blood stock level of 5 days. The winter weather is not conducive to going out, and with the continuing storms in Cape Town, they are seeing the effects on their blood stocks. Blood donors suffer from colds and flu during this time and can subsequently not donate blood – up until the resolution of their symptoms .
