The production is said to be a ‘mythic opera’ about faith and destiny and will run at Artscape Theatre from the 2 nd till the 5 th of May.  The musical play, Flower of Shembe, is a re-imagining of what trials and tribulations might befall a prophet-in-the-making coming to terms with his own destiny. We also spoke to Natasha Wagiet - An attorney for the Legal Resources Centre Gauteng ’s office. She was speaking to us about the follow up meeting that they had in partnership with the Commission for Gender Equality regarding Maternity Benefits. A research paper has been developed by the LRC, which highlights international agreements and Constitutional imperatives, weighing these up against current South African legislation and practice. In today's show, we heard from Glen de Swart – Project Manager for Health4Men. We were talking about Ukwazana, a campaign of Health4Men. The campaign is a two-pronged intervention, with messaging aimed at men who have sex with men in townships in the Cape Town area. We also heard from Linda Dyasi - Programme Co-ordinator in Klipfontein and Mitchells Plain Health District. We were speaking about the department’s drive aimed at inoculating especially high risk people to reduce influenza-related morbidity and mortality and the transmission of the influenza virus within communities. The campaign runs until June 30th, 2012 and 100 000 free vaccine doses have been allocated across all districts to community health centres and clinics. People who fall under the priority group are encouraged to go to their nearest health facility to request the vaccination.

On Sakhisizwe today, we spoke to J anine Hicks - Lead commissioner for Gender, Democracy and Good Governance at the Commission for Gender Equality. Jenny was speaking to us about the consultative dialogue on sex work legislative reform that they hosted together with COSATU’s National Gender Committee today at their head office. The purpose of this dialogue was to inform the development of their institution's individual position on this issue, and their subsequent submissions to Parliament and supporting campaigns.  T he Department of Justice and Constitutional Development is set to table legislation in this regard before Parliament, although it is not clear when this can be anticipated. We closed off with an interview with Mullah Flatwell – Co-founder of Women Against Poverty. She was telling us more about the soup kitchen that she’s been running over the past 10 years in Lavender Hill every Thursday from noon . The soup kitchen started out of the kindness of two women who wanted to make a difference in helping the less fortunate and those that go hungry every day in their own small way. She feeds mothers, babies and children from seven different schools. Aunty Mullah is an inspiration to all because she continues to do the work that she does despite receiving no funding except for a few donations. She said that it was becoming more difficult to continue as the number of mouths to feed was increasing and likewise the price of food. She is appealing for donations from members of the public. He was telling us more about their formal submission to the City of Cape Town regarding a New Janitorial Service that could improve Sanitation Conditions for more than 350 000 people in Cape Town ’s Informal Settlements. They say the City's Commitment could signal major shift in Cape Town 's Sanitation Policy & Influence Sanitation Provision Nationally. It outlines the need for a new service to maintain more than 13 700 permanent flush toilets in the City’s informal settlements servicing at least 350 000 residents since in many of these communities one toilet stall can be shared between a hundred households, yet they currently receive no routine maintenance from the City.
