We heard from Professor Jolanda Roux - Researcher at the University of South Africa ’s Forestry and
Agricultural Biotechnology Institute to tell us more about the recent NSTF-BHP Billiton Award that she
received for her outstanding contribution to Science, Engineering, Technology
and Innovation. Professor Roux’s research interests focus strongly on fungi and
bacteria resulting in disease and death of woody hosts. Most of her research
has been focused on the diseases of the commercial plantation forestry species
in South Africa and other African countries. The NSTF-BHP
Billiton Awards is the flagship project of the National Science and Technology
Forum (NSTF) that encourages and rewards excellence in scientific research,
technological innovation, education, capacity building and science
communication in South Africa .
The awards provide an opportunity for recognition on a national level for all
practicing scientists, engineers and technologists across the system of
innovation.
