We also heard from Zanna Bliss - Co-founder of the Legal Centre in Defence of the Rural
Poor. We were talking about their call to support the Commercial,
Stevedoring, Agricultural and Allied Workers Union or
CSAAWU. The union is said to be under attack from bosses for organising farm
workers through their Speak out Campaign. The Speak-Out Campaign aims to bring an end to
the oppression and exploitation of farm workers and farm dwellers by coming
together to build solidarity, strength and hope amongst the rural working
class. The
Legal Centre in Defence of the Rural Poor aims to provide training and
education, legal advice and services, referrals of matters to existing
organisations for litigation purposes, advocacy support, and facilitation of
partnerships with existing organisations, assistance with cases in alternative
foray other than conventional courts and eventually litigation. For further
information you can email Zanna to zanna.bliss@gmail.com or tnchristians@gmail.com
