Grandparents to lose foster child grant

We heard from Paula Proudlock – From UCT's Children's Institute. She was speaking to us about the latest high court ruling whereby grand parents are said to no longer qualify for foster child grants. This comes after judgement was handed down by Judge Halima Salduker in the South Gauteng High Court last week. According to the judge, grandparents no longer qualify for the foster child grant of R 770 per month but will get the child support grant for children in their care at a monthly rate of R 280. Child law experts expressed their concern of the consequences of the judgment. For further information you can contact the institute on (021) 689 5404 or visit www.ci.org.za
