11 September - Human Rights - HSRC to host a seminar on "Developing Effective Policies for Alcohol and Substance Abuse"


In today's show, we heard from Professor Arvin Bhana - Executive director for the Human and Social Development research programme at the Human Science Research Council. He was speaking to us about the seminar that they will be hosting on "Developing Effective Policies for Alcohol and Substance Abuse". The seminar will be presented by Professor Keith Humphreys, of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at Stanford University School of Medicine in the US. The presentation will discuss what is known about the effectiveness of different alcohol policies, both at the population and individual level yet the primary focus of the talk is on alcohol policy, where appropriate lessons will be drawn from efforts to regulate tobacco and illegal drugs. It’s happening on Tuesday September 25th, 2012 from 10:00AM till 11:30AM and those interested in attending are encouraged to rsvp by September 21st.
