SJC remembers Khayelitsha’s Mob justice victims

We closed off with an interview with Joel Bregman - Senior researcher for Social Justice Coalition (SJC). He was speaking to us about the recent night vigil that they held to remember the victims of Khayelitsha’s Mob justice. SJC and its partner organisations held a candlelight vigil last week Thursday night in Khayelitsha where they discussed the issue of mob violence and spoke about ways to curb it so that these horrific scenes are not repeated. As part of their Justice for All campaign they have requested the establishment of a Commission of Inquiry to investigate the systemic problems plaguing safety and justice in the area and lodged a formal complaint in November 2011 which cited, amongst other things, a breakdown in relations between police and the community in Khayelitsha. The recent spate of mob justice killings is the clear indication of this broken relationship. For further information you can contact SJC on (021) 361 8160 or visit www.sjc.org.za
