Sex Workers' Open University seminar update
We closed off with an interview with Sally Shackleton - Director
of Sex Workers Education and Advocacy Taskforce. Sally was speaking to us about the Cape Town Sex Workers' Open
University seminar on Sex Work and Feminism that they hosted last week
Wednesday. Sweat hosted the Open University
Seminar Sex Work and Feminism questioning “Is there room for sex work in
feminism and is there room for feminism in sex work? Can a sex worker call
herself/himself a feminist? And what do feminists have to say about that? The
seminar entailed feminists and sex workers unpacking these and more as the
guest speakers included Dr Benita Moolman - a feminist Researcher, Writer and
Activist of the Human Sciences Research Council (HSRC), Shane Petzer - Sweat
Co-founder, Oratile Moseki - Advocacy Manager, Kholi Buthelezi - Sex worker
feminist, and Sisonke National Coordinator - Theresa Olesen who has a BSc in
International Development Studies and Performance Design MA student from the
