North-West University introduces innovative way to increase South Africa's graduates

We also heard from Professor Johan Fick - Dean of the Faculty of Engineering at the North West University. He was speaking to us about their innovative way to increase South Africa's graduates in Science, Engineering, Technology and Health. The North-West University have come up with an innovative way to increase South Africa's graduates in Science, Engineering, Technology and Health in response to the critical shortage of graduates in this field that SA faces. They decided to tackle the problem head on by beginning to train future graduates when they are still at school instead of university as it’s too late to work with them then. They have set up a unique partnership with schools and industry partners which will see learners beginning their training in science, engineering, technology and health from Grade 8 as the school is open to learners from around the country.
