Isandla Institute hosts a roundtable dialogue on active citizenship

We closed off with an interview with Pamela Masiko-Kambala - Local government policy researcher at Isandla Institute. She was speaking to us about the recent roundtable dialogue they hosted last month entitled ‘Advancing active citizenship: A Citizenship Academy as a means to strengthen local democracy?’ which discussed the notion of the academy and whether it’s a suitable means to cultivate and support (non-partisan) leadership from below. This follows after the National Planning Commission's National Development Plan (NDP) proposed the establishment of a Citizenship Academy at municipal level whose role would be to promote citizenship education and training to strengthen community organisation, planning and project management skills and competencies. For further information you can contact the Institute on (021) 683 7903 or visit www.isandla.org.za
