05 July - Labour - MEDO Treppie Team visits Mitchell’s Plain

In today's show, we heard from Bridget Makgare - Mobile truck manager of MEDO. She was speaking to us about their unit ‘Treppie’ which is helping entrepreneurs as well as aspiring entrepreneurs. The MEDO mobile truck unit ‘Treppie’ will be in Mitchell’s Plain until Friday July 6th,2012 helping entrepreneurs as well as aspiring entrepreneurs in the area. This leg of the tour is being funded by UK Trade and Investment as part of the International Trade Programme as the SA and UK governments are looking for micro and small businesses that can benefit from importing and exporting. The Treppie Team will assist in answering the following questions such as Are you an entrepreneur, Do you want to start a business, Do you want to grow your business and Do you want to import or export? Winter having an effect on Bloodstocks

The Western Cape Blood Service (WCBS) is appealing to all donors to donate blood as blood stocks are critically low. “The winter is having a severe effect on our bloodstocks and we are amidst a severe blood stock shortage”, says Marike Carli, Public Relations Manager at WCBS. There is a critical shortage in the O and B blood groups, with only a 2-day supply left. The A-positive blood stocks are also under severe pressure as only a 3-day supply is left. WCBS always aim to have a blood stock level of 5 days. The winter weather is not conducive to going out, and with the continuing storms in Cape Town, they are seeing the effects on their blood stocks. Blood donors suffer from colds and flu during this time and can subsequently not donate blood – up until the resolution of their symptoms .
