03 July - Human Rights - EE calls on Education Minister to action

On sakhisizwe today, we heard from Doron Isaacs - Coordinator at Equal Education. He was speaking to us about the two recent pickets they held in protest of Basic Education Minister Angie Motshekga missing two deadlines in their court case. Equal Education hosted two pickets last week Thursday and Friday in front of Parliament and on Sea Point promenade respectively. Both pickets included an exhibition that explained the school infrastructure crisis in South Africa and chronicled the history of EE’s campaign for minimum norms and standards for school infrastructure. The pickets followed Basic Education Minister, Angie Motshekga’s failure to file her answering affidavit despite Equal Education (EE) granting her two extensions. EE calls on the Minister to file her answering affidavit immediately because to further delay the court case would be continuing to deny South African learners the right to attend safe, secure and resourced schools.
