In today's show, we spoke to Maleeka Mokallik - Public Relations and Communications Manager at the Cape Mental Health Society. July marks Psychiatric Disability Awareness Month and it has been reported that between 1% and 3% of the South African population are likely to suffer from a mental health problem severe enough to require hospitalisation, that’s according to health 24. The month raises awareness about mental illnesses, such as depression, schizophrenia, and bipolar disorder and also draws attention to suicide, which is predominately precipitated by some mental illness.
