June marks Men’s Health Month

We closed off with an interview with Dr Martin De Villiers - Family Physician and Healthcare Consultant. We were talking about "Let’s Talk Balls’ campaign". The campaign was launched by Professor Ridwan Shabsigh, President of the International Society of Men’s Health and Professor of Urology at Cornell University in New York to heighten the awareness of preventable health problems and encourage men to go to their doctors for health checks – at least once a year. The purpose of these annual health checks are three fold: Prevention, Early detection and Attention to individuals at risk. “Let’s Talk Balls” is a programme aimed at uncovering the mystery of male health. Men are encouraged to use Men’s Health Week to enlighten themselves (and women!) about what can be done to ensure good health, a better quality of life, and longevity. This year’s message is: "you only live once – so have the balls to get involved and start by making June the month that you go and get yourself checked out".
