Press Freedom Commission invite comments on press freedom
We also heard from Dr Phillip Mtimkulu – Spokesperson for the Press Freedom Commission. The Commission has put out a call to the public to voice its opinion on regulation of print media in South Africa. Members of the public and consumers of newspapers, online publications and magazines are invited, to help shape the regulatory framework of SA’s print media by submitting their written views about media regulation in SA. The deadline for written submissions is the 30th of November 2011. The Commission will following receipt of submissions, also stage a series of public hearings around the country in January 2012. Public hearings will be held in the following centres of major print media activity: Cape Town, Port Elizabeth, Durban, Bloemfontein and Johannesburg. Other details will follow in due course. Those who wish to make oral submission at the public hearings are required to contact the PFC for scheduling.
