Kidney Awareness Week - Remember to have your kidneys checked regularly

We were also joined by Sister Rasieda Samai – from the National Kidney Foundation of South Africa. This week is the Kidney Awareness Week and the campaign aimed at raising awareness about kidneys and, more importantly, ways to reduce the risk of kidney disease. According to medical experts, kidney disease is often ‘silent’, having few symptoms especially in the early stages. If left unchecked, the disease can progress or lead to kidney failure. If detected early, appropriate treatment can help delay or even prevent end-stage kidney failure. Sister Samai explained more. Remember to have your kidneys checked regularly, especially if you are at ‘high risk’. Tomorrow, Sister Samai will be doing screenings at Melomed in Mitchells Plain, Gatesville and in Bellville on Thursday. For more information contact her on 079 528 8019 or the National Kidney Foundation of SA at (011) 447 2531 or visit www.nkf.co.za
