09 May - Health - Highlighting the dangers of Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease

In today’s show, we were joined on the line by Professor Eric Bateman - Professor of Respiratory Medicine and director at the UCT Lung Institute. We were talking about Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease or COPD. COPD is a progressive disease that decreases one‘s ability to breath with ease. It is also one of the most common lung disease. Smokers or people who have smoked are most susceptible to COPD. But, constant and long term exposure to air pollution, chemical fumes, or dust, also increases one’s risk of getting COPD. Professor Bateman explained more.
