In today's show we spoke to Adéle Grosse – from InTouch Parenting. We were talking about the Proud Parent Skills Development Programme. InTouch Parenting is a community service that is there to inform, enable and encourage parents to create a safer and more incorporated and non-violent society. They aim to bridge the gap between youth and their parents. Mauritz – from Men Understanding Respect and Love or MURAL was also part of the show. This is a support group for abusers; it consists of those who have stopped and those who are trying to stop physical, emotional, verbal, financial and/or sexual abuse of their partners. Their motto is men can and do change. Mauritz explained more on how they encourage abusers to seek help. We heard from Collette Solomons – Deputy Director of Women on Farms. This is a non-governmental organisation that works with women who are involved with commercial agriculture, mainly in the Western Cape. The project was started as an initiative aimed at meeting the specialised needs of women who live and work on farms. Winter having an effect on Bloodstocks

The Western Cape Blood Service (WCBS) is appealing to all donors to donate blood as blood stocks are critically low. “The winter is having a severe effect on our bloodstocks and we are amidst a severe blood stock shortage”, says Marike Carli, Public Relations Manager at WCBS. There is a critical shortage in the O and B blood groups, with only a 2-day supply left. The A-positive blood stocks are also under severe pressure as only a 3-day supply is left. WCBS always aim to have a blood stock level of 5 days. The winter weather is not conducive to going out, and with the continuing storms in Cape Town, they are seeing the effects on their blood stocks. Blood donors suffer from colds and flu during this time and can subsequently not donate blood – up until the resolution of their symptoms .
