In today’s show, we spoke to Xolani Mbanga – Managing Director of Allan Gray Orbis Foundation. We were talking about the foundation’s Entrepreneurial Development programme. Gregory Bunyard – from the Ka-Ching Foundation joined us on the line. Ka-Ching! develops practical and participative courses for children between the ages of 6 and 15. The courses aim to help parents and schools teach vital Entrepreneurship and Intrapreneurship techniques, success skills and wealth creation principles. We were focusing on the Hout Bay Community Intervention Initiative. The Ka-Ching! Community Intervention Initiative for Hout Bay is a project that has recognised a practical way for children and their parents to develop the mindset of an entrepreneur where they learn skills such as money-management, maths and business skills that will help them learn to become self-sufficient. The Community Intervention Initiative for Hout Bay is an all-round project that will help address the educational and unemployment challenges facing this area. For more information contact their offices on (021) 788 3574 or send him an email to info@ka-ching.co.za

We also heard from Etienne Vlok – from the South African Clothing and Textile Workers Union. It has been reported that the clothing and textile industry is battling to survive due to the slow economy. 24 factories closed shop this year leaving more than four thousand workers jobless. More companies are expected to close down but SACTWU says they will contest these closures. We were talking about possible solution to this crisis. For more information SACTWU on (021) 4474570.

And last but not least we spoke to Candice Collins – from Learn to Earn. At Learn to Earn they train and equip unemployed people in various skills, like sewing or garment making and carpentry, so that they may become self-supportive and independent.
