Today we spoke to Phillip Boyd – Director of Dance for All Youth Company and Community Outreach Programme. Dance for All is a community based project which seeks to uplift the children in underprivileged communities by providing the opportunity for enjoyment and promotion of self-esteem through the medium of dance. And we also had an interview with Mario Pissarra from the Africa South Art Initiative. Their aim is to promote a vision of post-colonial, post-apartheid transformation that privileges critical and constructive engagement between artists and associated professionals and institutions on the African continent. They are currently running an exhibition called ReCenter at Look-Out Hill in Khayelitsha. The exhibition features the following artists: Ernestine White, Donovan Ward, Mario Pissarra, Xolile Mtakatya, Randolph Hartzenberg, Garth Erasmus and Gerry Dixon. Our last interview was with Tanya Surtees – Chairperson of From the Hip! Khulumakahle. They offer access to theatre training for the Deaf community and they also prepare Deaf and hearing performers for entrance into both the professional theatre industry and for integration into their Company.
